About the app

What is Unavoidable Health?

Unavoidable Health is a fitness and nutrition web app for UK adults who want to get in shape with friends. It gives you a daily calorie and protein target, one-tap workout logging with 250+ exercises, a food diary with a barcode scanner, progress tracking, and shared goals with friends and groups.

Is Unavoidable Health on the App Store or Google Play?

Not yet. Unavoidable Health is in beta as a web app that works on iPhone, Android and desktop: add it to your home screen and it opens like any other app, even offline. Our App Store and Google Play apps are being built now, and your account will carry straight over when they launch.

Getting started

Do I need to know my height and weight to start?

No. You can skip them and still log workouts and food straight away. Add them when you're ready and we'll build your plan. Your first weigh-in fills in your weight automatically.

Can I just log a walk or a run?

Yes. On Train, tap Walk, Run, Cycle, Swim, Yoga or Hike and the timer starts straight away. Stop it when you're done and add the distance if you like.

Is there help with exercise technique?

Yes. Every exercise has a form guide with set-up, step-by-step instructions, coaching cues, common mistakes and easier or harder versions. Tap the i next to any exercise during a workout.

Price and the beta

How much does Unavoidable Health cost?

It's free during the beta. After the beta it will be £4.99 a month or £59.99 a year, with every feature included. We'll let you know before the beta ends.

How do I give feedback on the beta?

Use the Send feedback button on this page or inside the app. Tell us what's working, what isn't and what you'd add. Every message is read.

Privacy and data

Is my data safe, and where is it stored?

Yes. Your account and health data are stored on our server in the United Kingdom and protected by UK GDPR. We will never sell your data or share it with advertisers, and there are no ads or trackers. Nobody sees your activity unless you add them as a friend or join a group, and you choose exactly what they see. You can download or delete everything at any time.

Food and calories

How many calories should I eat to lose weight?

It depends on your age, height, weight, sex and how active you are. Our calculator estimates what you burn each day using the Mifflin-St Jeor formula, then sets a deficit for a steady loss of about 0.75% of your body weight a week (around 0.5 to 0.75 kg for most people), never more than 25% of what you burn. It's an estimate, not medical advice, so let your weekly weigh-ins guide you.

How much protein do I need?

For people who train regularly, a common guide is 1.6 to 2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight a day, at the higher end while losing weight to protect muscle. Our calculator works this out for you. If you have a medical condition, check with your GP first.

Does the barcode scanner work for products outside the UK?

Yes. It searches about 4 million food and drink products from more than 150 countries, showing ones sold in your country first. If something isn't found, add it from the label once and it works for everyone after that.

Are there recipes in the app?

Yes. There are 50 healthy recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, with calories and protein per serving worked out from the same food data the app uses. Pick a number of servings and add it to your diary in one tap.

Will my calorie target change over time?

Yes, if you want it to. The weekly check-in compares what you ate with how your weight moved and suggests small, safe changes. You choose whether to accept them.

Friends and groups

How do I add friends without sharing my email?

Pick a unique nickname and share it. Friends type it to send you a request you can accept or decline. You can also share a private friend code or invite link to connect instantly. Your email is never shown.

Do the boards show my weight?

No. Boards and challenges count effort: workouts, weigh-ins done, food logged and encouragement sent. Your weight, food and body details are never shown, and the boards are opt-in.

Watches and other apps

Can I bring in workouts from my Apple Watch or Android phone?

Yes. In the app, go to You, then Connected apps. iPhone users export from the Health app; Android users export from Health Connect, Google Fit (Google Takeout) or Samsung Health. The file is read on your phone and only workouts and weigh-ins are sent. Importing again never creates duplicates.

Can friends see imported workouts?

Only if you want them to. Before each import you choose whether friends can see the workouts or whether they stay just for you.

More questions

Can my friends see my weight?

No. Your body data stays private unless you choose to share it. Boards and groups count effort: workouts, weigh-ins done, food logged and cheering others on.
